Dagster+

Dagster+ is pay-as-you-go on two published tiers. Solo is $10 / month plus $0.040 per credit; Starter is $100 / month plus $0.035 per credit; Pro is quoted by sales. A credit is one asset materialisation or one op execution. There is no free Solo plan: the entry route is a 30-day trial. Lineage and the asset graph are core to the product, not a plugin.source - pulled 2026-09-22

2026 changes

Prefect is acquiring Dagster Labs, announced 13 July 2026; Dagster keeps its name, its open source licence and Dagster+ as a commercial product. There is no free Solo plan: the entry route is a 30-day trial. The rate card also carries a second table under a banner reading 'Updated Solo and Starter pricing takes effect May 1, 2026' at Solo $120/month for 7.5k credits and Starter $1,200/month for 30k credits, so confirm which schedule applies before signing.

Pricing in detail

The credit is the whole meter, and Dagster defines it plainly: every asset materialised counts as one credit, and every op that executes counts as one credit. That makes the bill a function of graph shape rather than row volume, which is the opposite of how the ELT vendors on this site charge.

Deployment choice is the second lever and it is the larger one. Hybrid runs the control plane in Dagster's cloud and execution on the customer's own infrastructure, and carries no compute charge at all. Dagster+ Serverless bills compute at $0.010 per minute on top of the credits. A team with spare Kubernetes capacity should price Hybrid first.

Solo and Starter differ on headroom rather than on model: Solo is 1 user, 1 code location, 1 deployment; Starter is up to 3 users, 5 code locations, 1 deployment, and adds catalog search. Everything above that (unlimited code locations and deployments, RBAC, SSO, SCIM, audit logs, EU data residency, uptime SLAs) sits on Pro, which carries no published price.

One caution before signing. The rate card carries a second table under a banner reading "Updated Solo and Starter pricing takes effect May 1, 2026", listing Solo at $120 / month for 7.5k credits and Starter at $1,200 / month for 30k credits. Dagster's own pricing FAQ on the same page still describes Solo at $10 / month plus $0.040 per credit and Starter at $100 / month plus $0.035 per credit. Both schedules are published side by side, so confirm which one a quote is written against.

Prefect is acquiring Dagster Labs, announced 13 July 2026. Dagster says it continues under its own name and open source licence, that Dagster+ remains a supported commercial offering, and that deployments, contracts, pricing and support are unchanged. The combined company is expected to operate under the Prefect name from August 2026.source - pulled 2026-09-22

When to pick Dagster+

Pick Dagster when the team thinks in data assets and dependencies rather than DAG tasks. Asset materialisation, freshness policies, and lineage are first-class.

Avoid Dagster when the team is already deep in Airflow operators and the ecosystem-breadth matters more than asset-graph semantics.

Mid-market estimate

For a 50M-MAR mid-market profile, the published rate produces an estimated subscription line of $3,600/mo. Starter on Hybrid at 100,000 credits / month: the $100 base plus 100,000 credits at $0.035. Hybrid carries no serverless compute charge, so that is the whole Dagster line.source - pulled 2026-09-22Run the full TCO at /tco-calculator.
